In years past, wood siding was everywhere. This was a time before synthetic materials became more common, but it is definitely a beautiful siding material. You can still find homes with wood siding today, and some choose to install it on their homes, but it does come with quite a few downsides.
For example, wood siding is an expensive alternative as a siding material. It also requires a lot of upkeep. Wood can be attacked by wood-destroying insects, it can get damaged by water and start to rot, it could grow mold or moss, and it could serve as a spot for woodpeckers to dig in, just to mention a few of the problems with wood.
On the positive side, wood is a renewable resource, so it is a positive choice for the environment. It can also look very beautiful, as long as you make sure to protect it from the long list of dangers that we provided.
