Most homeowners will have some kind of garbage can outside their homes. It’s a reality of life that we generate quite a bit of trash in our everyday life, but whenever there is any kind of organic matter left outside for a period of time, there is a chance that flies get into it. A very common sight on warm summer days is that of a garbage can crawling with maggots. It is not a very pleasant sight, and even though it might not pose an immediate health risk, the flies that will spawn from it could carry disease into your home.
To prevent this from happening, it helps if your garbage can seals well. If you have bulky, non-organic waste that you are throwing out, keep this somewhere else until it’s time for garbage pickup. That way you won’t have an overflowing garbage can that will give flies ready access.
