Your septic system will also be under a heavier load with more people in the home as well. This means that you should make sure that you are keeping up with the maintenance of these systems. If you notice any leaks, those should be dealt with as soon as possible, and if you find that your toilets tend to flush differently during rainstorms, you should figure out whether or not your septic system needs to be pumped more frequently than usual.
If you do end up leaving your home for a vacation, you can turn down your water heater to a lower temperature so as to save on energy cost while you are away.
